History
Red Bank sits on the Navesink River, named for the red-coloured soil along its banks as far back as 1736. It was a manufacturing town through the early 20th century before its downtown — dense, walkable, and built out over more than a century — became the draw it is today, which means older commercial and mixed-use buildings sitting close together with wiring and plumbing added to in layers rather than replaced wholesale.
