Why do my LEDs flicker on a dimmer?

The dimmer is almost certainly an old one built for incandescent loads. LEDs draw far less and confuse it. Swapping to an LED-rated dimmer fixes it and takes minutes.

Can you add lighting where there is none?

Usually. Whether it is simple depends on what is above the ceiling and whether there is a switch leg to work from. We will tell you which of those you are dealing with before quoting.
